HOW TO MAKE YOUR LIBRARY MORE EFECTIVE
The world is fast changing. Our subject and our profession are also changing rapidly. We have to survive with this changing scenario. So we have to automate our library immediately. In the mean time we may organize our library in the following way. The check points are as follows:
1. Collect a computer system. Connect with internet;
2. Open the library throughout the school hours;
3. Choose some topics, do newspaper and periodical clippings;
4. Take book review from students; guide them for maintaining uniformity; It could be displayed also;
5 .Maintain separate dossier for competitive examination and career opportunities;
6. Monthly indexing to be done from important and educative periodicals;
7. Maintain a display board indicating rules, regulations of the library and contemporary news;
8. Display weekly thought and the relevant books/articles;
9. Select and display periodicals carefully and on regular basis;
10. Meticulous entry of library books and periodicals to be done;
11. Maintain authority file;
12. Library orientation programme to new users specially for class VI students;
13. Keep touch with CBSE and NCERT website;
14. Conduct regular meeting of library committee;
15. Display the list of new arrivals; If possible the books also;
16. Issue-return in card method with Browne system;
17. Suggestion box/register to be maintained;
18. Reservation register to be maintained;
19. Library policy to be circulated and displayed openly among staff and signature must be taken;
20. Entry of Staff list in MS -Excel indicating the reference page no.of issue register;
21. List of project related books available in the library for ready reference;
22. Introduce reward for students who has issued highest books and for best book review;
23. Don’t be enthusiastic for escort duty; try to maximize the the no. of working days for library;
24. Don’t be enthusiastic for class teacher ship; it may affect core duty of librarianship.
25. Torn out books to be bound regularly;
26. Frequently update library data as per the policy;
27. Also try to prepare billing and payment statement;
28. Insecticide sprays to be done before the breaks and vacation;
29. Issue of back volumes of children magazines to primary sections;
30. Create a hanging library for primary section under the charge of Head Master;
31. Book review reading in the assembly by the students some times; once in a month etc.;
32. Condemnation of books to be done regularly;
33. Reminder to students for overdue books-may be maintained in a separate register;
34. Notice may be given to staff for overdue books;
35. Separate register for users with unique id so that duplicate card may be given;
36. Library fine to be taken for lost books;
37. Regularly disposing of old newspapers and non-educative old periodicals;
38. Keep touch with the central government official website;
39. Keep touch with few community site of central government employees such 90paisa,gconnect;cgstaffnewsetc;
40. Keep touch with few site of library professional such as lislinks.com etc.
41. If possible, add printer and scanner;
42. Physical stock verification must be accomplished;
43. The core collection may be supplemented through e- resources;
44. Book week may be organized to bring attention of the whole school;
45. Establish Readers club. Inspite of declining habit of reading there are still children in every school who are voracious reader;
